help!!ipod dead?

last night my ipod shut off and now it wont turn back on, and when i plug it in it shows me a ipod with an ! and a sad face anyone know of anytricks to fix this??

Try resetting it by pressing and holding the Menu + Select buttons.  If that doesn't work, you might need to use the iPod update in iTunes to restore it.

unfortunatley i have tried this. and when i hook it to the pc it just shows that screen and my computer doesnt recognize it

I made two suggestions.  Which did you try?

Also, don't just connect it with the sad face.  First reset and force it into Disk Mode by holding Select and Play while it boots.

i have told you everything i tried, and post above me it wont power on to force into disc mode, so i guess im screwed

It sounds to me like your battery is drained.  Try charging it off of a wall charger for about an hour.  Then reset it and force it into Disk Mode.

Plug it in.  Let it charge for a while.  Then do what I told you earlier.

At the risk of beating a dead horse ...

What happened?  We know that the player powers on when you plug it into the computer, because you've said that it gives you the restore screen.  So when you press and hold Menu and Select, it *must* do something.

Try to reformat it, then try to restore it with the apple updater.  That worked with my Ipod when the sad Ipod face happened.
