Ipod is broke
« on: November 14, 2006, 10:15:19 PM »
someone help me please.

I can't do nothing with my rockbox'd ipod. When I start it up, I get the black screen with the apple, then it goes to a white screen with the error message, "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore" in 4 different languages. When I try to restore with itunes, the process keeps on repeating and nothing happens.

I tried formatting the HDD, but nothing happens. It says format complete, and when I open the Ipod drive in My Computer, nothing shows in there. But when I plug it in, the rockbox do not disconnect screen appears.

I still have warranty, but I can't send it in until I get rid of the rockbox screen.

Help me please.

On the ipod there is no Rockbox "Do Not Disconnect" screen.  What you are seeing is the splash screen from Apple's Emergency Disk Mode, which is not on the hard drive, which is why it still works even after a full format.  You probably incorrectly associate this screen with Rockbox because Rockbox has no disk mode of its own, and switches to Apple's disk mode when you insert the USB cable.

Unless I am mistaken about what you have done, there is no firmware on your Ipod at all currently.  You need to use restore your Apple firmware using Apple tools, there should be no trace of Rockbox left after the format you did.

Correct me if I am wrong.  If you see the actual yellow Rockbox logo upon boot I am mistaken.

Maybe you reformatted it wrong?

Try "fat32" and do a full format (not quick)

and boot into disk mode.

then restore with iTunes 7 or iPodUpdater.
