Which folder for theme zip file???
« on: November 14, 2006, 08:16:04 AM »
Everybody tells me different things. You gotta decide which folder I shall extract the theme zip file. Is it the IPOD root directory? Is it the ROCKBOX root directory? Is it the WPS root directory? ???

You can't beat answering a question with an incomprehensible statement ;)

How do I install a theme to an ipod 5G(video)? Which folder, THEMES or WPS.. How do I it? I have downloaded the zip files to my computer..
It depends how it has been zipped.

Describe exactly what folders/paths or files are in the zip and I'll help you out.

The 'jblackglass' theme requires a custom build. Leave that for now, until you know what you are doing.

I say again... but I won't be offering a third time:

...because it depends what path the zip has been created from as to where you should unzip it to.

The .cfg file goes to /.rockbox/themes/
The .wps file goes to /.rockbox/wps/
The .bmp files should be all in a folder with the name of the wps. The folder as it is should go into /.rockbox/wps/
If there is also an .fnt file, this should go to /.rockbox/fonts/

Don't forget to install the fonts pack from here:
http://download.rockbox.org/daily/fonts/rockbox-fonts-20061114.zip

^after you extract this you should have the /.rockbox/fonts/ directory with lot of .fnt files

If it's a complete build, then the patches to make the extra stuff work are already included.

Just install it onto your player as if you were doing a regular update

If you're trying jblackglass, you must be running an unsupported build. As you can tell by the name, those aren't supported by us. Try contacting the build author.

If you read the details about a theme, and the writing says the theme needs any sort of build, or any sort of patches, like the album art patch, or the scrolling margins patch then the theme requires an unsupported build.

If you need that then you either have to compile the build yourself, or download and install the unsupported build. Most themes that require unsupported builds have a link to the thread about that build where you can get help.

Jobobobo... definitely avoid special "builds" for the time being. jBlackGlass being one of them. There is a standard BlackGlass (ie. without album art) that will work with official Rockbox daily builds. Theme X & Glow should also both work.

The fact that you're getting a black screen & codec failure worries me more. Have you definitely downloaded the correct daily build for your iPod? And, when you say 5g, you definitely don't mean the latest 5.5g do you?

Installing themes is VERY simple. Download theme.zip. Copy to iPod root. Extract the zip file. Boot-up Rockbox. Menu > Browse Themes > Select Theme. Ta da.
