Ok guys,
I know you will all sigh with frustration when you read this post, bc its a really simple stupid question. Sorry, I will willingly admit that I am the most un-knowledgeable person in the world (possibly the universe) when it comes to computers and electronics.

A friend has just given me their MP3 player (the iaudio x5) which is running rockbox. I would like to put music on it from my comp, but not delete any of theirs. Do i need to download any software for my computer, or jst plug the player in and see what happens?

Simple simple instructions would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

If you just plug it in to your computer via a usb-port it's going to show up as an ordinary hard-drive.

Then just copy your music onto the new IAUDIO drive as you would to any other media like harddrive or floppy disk or usb pen memory.

You got it!

Connect using USB, create a new folder at the top level (i.e., E:\tessa and drag 'n' drop your music into it.

If your friend is using Tag Cache (ask him/her, it's easier than explaining it here ;) ) then you will also need to update the database in order to view your music (Menu>General Settings>File View>Tag Cache>Update Now), otherwise just browse into your folder and voilá!

EDIT: Bother, too slow... :) xlarge beat me to it

You might not want to say that in a forum predominated by nerds  ;D
