Why "duall boot" ??
« on: November 12, 2006, 05:47:09 PM »
Hi.

Rockbox gives the option to load the Apples original firmware holding MENU when rebooting, OK?

So why people install the dual boot loader?? Which advantages??

Thanx.

The advantage is: dual boot!

And there is no Rockbox bootloader for ipod without that feature, so it is easy to see why people opt for this version! ;-)

Sorry, maybe I'm not clear.

I'm asking about the differences between the dual boot with loader.bin   and rockbox bootloader-video.bin .

That's my doubt.

bootloader-video.bin gives me the original OS holding MENU while rebooting.

loader.bin gives me a menu with options Rockbox and Apple OS.

I can access Apple and Rockbox firmwares with both methods.
So, what's the difference using loader.bin or bootloader-video.bin ?? Any advantage??

The difference is for people who want IpodLinux (from ipodlinux.org) on their Ipods as well as Rockbox and the regular AppleOS.

Both bootloaders support iPodLinux.

The advantage is that the Rockbox on (bootloader-video.bin) is faster, while the Linux one (loader.bin) gives you a graphical menu, instead of just holding down buttons.

Woah I can't believe I didn't know that the rockbox bootloader could load all three. I might just switch back now.  ::)

thanks for the correction  :)

It's supported all three since before Rockbox even supported Music on the iPod. :)
