Help Installing: Mac OS X & HP iPod 4th Gen Click Wheel

I am seeking help installing Rockbox on my HP iPod (Mac Extended) used with OS X on my Mac.

I have no programing skills and was getting confused by the directions.

Some specifics I got stuck on:

1)  Congiguring the drive FAT 32
2)  Installing the bootloader
3)  Installing Rockbox

This is as far as I got:

Neils-Computer:~ neil$ cd Desktop/rockbox
Neils-Computer:~/Desktop/rockbox neil$ dd if=mbr-4g-40gb.bin of=/dev/ipod
dd: /dev/ipod: Permission denied

Why does it say 'Permission Denied'

(and according to the directions, at this point the ipod should be unmounted, so how can it install a new partition if it's unmounted..)

Any basic help (like step by step, for someone who has no command line experience...) would be greatly appreciated!

You need to have the right permissions. you can become root by typing "sudo su" in a terminal and entering your password. Be forewarned root has ALOT of power, make sure you follow directions carefully
