iPod Mini 2g -- weird LCD behavior on boot with Rockbox installed

(1/1)

michael.conner:
I've got a new (refurbished) iPod Mini 2g that's exhibiting weird behavior on boot.  Usually once or twice a day, the iPod will have a line of dark pixels across the screen, usually about 1/3 of the way from the top.  It will fade within 5-10 minutes -- adjusting the contrast will make it less visible as well.  Rebooting the iPod didn't immediately make it go away.

I made an appointment with the local Apple Store, and before doing so, I reinstalled the original boot partition.  However, with *only* the Apple OS installed, I don't get the dark pixels, which means they wouldn't replace it, because there did not appear to be anything wrong with it.

Is there any way that Rockbox might be causing this LCD behavior?

EDIT: It does this with iPL's bootloader as well as with Rockbox's loader.

soundcheck:
It's a bug in rockbox. See: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/5199

To avoid this problem, don't shut down the ipod from rockbox. Instead, reboot into the Apple firmware and shut down the ipod from there.

Enjoy the mini.

michael.conner:
Thanks for the tip.  (And the reminder that Flyspray is there...)   :)

michael.conner:
So might this damage my iPod's LCD in the long run?  I've noticed it also leaving a single line of pixels across the screen after shutdown (as have others, now that I've searched a bit more.)  Will that draw power, even though the iPod is ostensibly in deep sleep mode?
