iPod video 60GB don't charge

(1/2) > >>

PHK Brasil:
I tried to charge my iPod video 60GB while playng, as I can do on original APple's firmware.

I started Rockbox, plug the USB wall charger adapter pressing MENU. The battery icon shows running like charging, but this not happens.

Is like the iPod ignores the charging, and keeps using only the battery charge until the fully discharge.

Tried on car adapter mode too, unsuccessfully.

Any help, please.

This is a known issue with two primary causes.
1 - Ipods draw less power through the USB port when using Rockbox, or when in Apple's disk mode than they do in Apple Firmware.
2 - Ipods running Rockbox consume significantly more power than Ipods running Apple's firmware.

PHK Brasil:
Thanks.

But this means that I can't use a wall charger as a power supply just to listen music ?
Rockbox needs more power than the battery and the wall charger provides together??
Is possible that the problem is only in my iPod, or this is a normal fact?? The battery discharged completely when I listen music with the wallcharger.

PS: I'm not using apple's original wallcharger. I'm using a Olympus camera 5Volts 2A , but it allways worked fine in apples firmware.

I've noticed when plugged into power (such as my jbl speaker dock) that it charges just fine while playing. I was kinda surprised when I saw this, actually. Just today, I put my almost dead ipod on the jbl dock and was playing music from it to test out the capability of the speakers (just got it yesterday), and by the time I was done, and needed to head to work (after a few hours of playing), I grabbed it from the dock, put it in the rhinoskin case and set it down. Then I noticed it was reporting the battery was 100% full (it was no longer displaying a charge status).

Perhaps there is a usb mode, command, or signal that tells the port to push more power rather than the device pull more power? Of course, the usb stuff really isn't working altogether yet so this is something that is not likely to be fixed until usb is working.

nimdae - does your dock charge over the firewire pins?
Do you need to press the Menu button when placing your iPod on the dock while Rockbox is running?  If you don't need to press Menu at that time to prevent a reboot then your dock is providing power via the firewire pins.
