RMAA run on the Nano 2G vs Nano 1G

Borrowed a Nano 2G from a friend to compare to my 1st gen Nano.

Their output stage seems to be almost identical.  

I haven't done a lot of RMAA testing before so this is my second attempt.
The sound card result was subtracted from the device results.  Load was provided by various headphones thru a Y splitter out of the audio out.

This one has 1G Nano on a 16ohm load (if anyone wants to compare it to 2G Nano, although it's fairly identical)

The other player is a Sony NW-A1000 which seems to have a rather beefy output stage and seems to be able to drive the 16ohm totaly flat.

I knew the 16 ohm issue was bad on the Ipods, but thats ridiculous.

Edit:  Also, is it just me or did the 2G actually get a lot worse at 16 ohms in IMD?

Ho do you run RMAA on an iPod ? I would like to do this too...

Just like a sound card, except you use a wav file of the test signal and play it on the Ipod back into the Mic jack on your computer.

It looks like the distortion figures are worse for 2G Nano under low impedance load.

Judging by the noise levels this test was run pretty much at full volume. The output stage may not be well suited for driving low impedance loads at such high voltage levels (too much current). I suggest running tests again at a lower volume level. Maybe use a volume level which is only moderately loud with the headphones used.

I can't manage running this test well...

i put a cable between the line out of my iPod and the line in (mic) of my computer, and then i use the "record only" option of RMAA with the test file generated by RMAA (Signal test 44khz 16 bit...). But the problem is that RMAA always says the line in volume is too low or too high ... so i can't manage having good results, my statistics are awful...

Are you using the actual line-out or the headphone jack of your iPod? And do you have the volume set at 0dB if you are using the headphon jack?

Actually i use the headphone jack of the iPod and the volume of the iPod is at about 50 % of the maxmimum. (on apple OS)

Here are the two messages when i modify the volume on Windows for RMAA:

PROBLEM: The input level is low. Try to increase recording or playback levels in your mixer.

PROBLEM: The input level is too high. Try to decrease recording or playback levels in your mixer.

And i don't manage having a good volume even with the line out jack (i use a PocketDock with Line out on the iPod Dock instead of the Headphones Jack and the volume on iPod is 0dB)

Yea, but a you know Rockbox doesn't run on iPod Nano 2G
