iPod 5g displays battery icon when rebooting to Rockbox
michael.conner:
I've got a 5g 60GB iPod that has (twice within the last week) shown the low battery icon when rebooting from Apple OS or when booting up to go to Rockbox. I've never had this happen before. Holding Menu+Select does make it come on after 10 seconds or so, but does this sound like the beginnings of hardware failure?
EDIT: I should point out the iPod is only 4-5 months old.

I have the same problem with a 5G 30GB ipod. Usually the low battery icon comes up if I try to start it at 85-90% battery remaining. Resetting with Menu+Select does work. I think it's a hardware problem (bad battery), but it might have something to do with Rockbox too - i have to charge the battery much more frequently than with the original firmware due to the low runtime.

I have the same problem with my 5G iPod Video 30GB. It is almost a year old. Even in the days before I discovered Rockbox, my battery never held a charge very long.
I don't blame Rockbox for this problem. I have had nothing but trouble with the damn iPod ever since it was new, so when it dies I'll be looking for a different player.

Same here.

Personally I think it is Rockbox, specifically recent builds. I installed Rockbox when I first got my iPod 5g, and until two days ago I was running an old unsupported build (senab's, fromm August). I just learned how to build it myself, and loaded on a much more recent daily build. As soon as I did that, it started having the problem described here about every 2 to 3 times it was powered off then on.
I suspect it has something to do with the state Rockbox leaves the iPod in when you hold Pause to power it off, since that's the only thing I can think of that would do this with what I have and have not changed (I didn't re-flash my iPod when I updated the build, I just made a new .rockbox folder).
