I think it's pretty obvious this is a hoax. It has all the usual signs:
  • No verifiable facts (ie. source)
  • Extremely vague description of how it was done
  • Not certain it'll be released
  • Author has "lost interest" (on the forum linked)
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

It is a hoax.  In his video "proof" the name of his iPod in iTunes when it was connected to his computer was Saphiroth, but when his iPod was disconnected, the name of his iPod magically changes to Floydpod.  The name your iPod is assigned in iTunes is the name it keeps until it is reformatted.  He used two 5g ipods.  One macpod, and one winpod.  How clever!   :P

I have never understood why people do this...

I found it interesting that he put his name and the names of the friends on the credits, but then put "Rockbox by...... Miscellaneous"

Kids these days...

I understand people posting hoax videos "proving" they did something even 1% of the general population cares about.  Those Super Mario Bros. on-an-ipod and MacOSx on-an-ipod hoaxes made sense,  but hoaxing the Rockbox community?
Can faking mad-Rockbox-coding skills get you laid now?

Yeah.  That's kind of an endorsement of Rockbox in a sad sort of way.   :-\

Since this thread is vastly off topic anyway, I'll go ahead and say I know a few girls who'd actually be quite impressed by "mad-Rockbox-coding skills". And actually there was this really cute girl working at Best Buy who saw me wearing my Rockbox shirt and seemed awful interested (she'd heard of it but not tried it) so there's something to say about all that.

There were shirts at Devcon, there were a few left over, so some of us managed to get our hands on 'em. ;)

That said, I love mine.  It is a good shirt to wear while at a job interview too!

its baby-bloody-blue tho.. it looks like my old school shirt!

anyway.. when i saw the vid i was going to post a really rude post bashing the guy, and was half way through it when i decided it would probably reflect badly on us, so i didnt (also didnt want to look like a 'tard if it was true)...

that said, ive finished the ext3 and ntfs patches.. just tihnking of the best way to load them so we dont have to have 3 different builds for each target.

I'd just like to announce that I've finished a port of Rockbox to the 2G Nano.  I'm not going to release it, but this picture proves I did it:
