Seriously, why should we care if you don't think you'll even release it?

If it does nobody any good, why bother?

Better yet, why not release a patch so that other people can fix it?

Well a patch would be releasing it. That'd actually be quite welcome.

I'm guessing he didn't want to release it because he can't figure out why its crashing.  In that case, putting it on the tracker would be a good solution.  Theres probably people interested enough to debug it.

No, I mean, how do videos do any good? How does anything *but* an actual release, or sharing of the actual work in progress code, do any good?

All it does is show off something unverifiable.

Generally with open source projects, people post the code as they go so that other people can test and fix bugs. Rather then release a video which is useless to other developers, you should post a patch for it and request feedback while you're working on it.  This will allow other people to comment on potential problems with your implementation that might impact its stability or it's eventual mergeing with CVS code.

well, i do have a team of people helping me with it, the video was released just as a POC to show it can be done.  i mean, when i took the source and looked at it, the answer became obvious, it's rather simple, but a bitch to actually get working.  and as i said before, it'll be released (maybe as a build, maybe as a patch) when it's ready, hell, as of now, i feel lucky that i got it to run that well for the video

Yeah thats why no one ever bothered to do it.  However, people have a habit of developing code and dissipearing before they actually submit a patch, so its definately best if you submit something as soon as possible, even if its incomplete.  You can always update teh patch later.

Just so long as you follow the GPL, that would be great.

Yup, if you release it as a build, you'll be required to release the full source as well, so a patch is actually easier. :)

Maybe I missed an important piece of information somewhere, but what exactly have you achieved?

Have you implemented a read/write HFS+ filesystem in Rockbox?   That's what's needed for Rockbox to be considered working on a MacPod.

If you uploaded the source to somewhere public, I'm sure someone else could spot  the obvious.   As it is, I can't see that anything has been achieved.
