Archos Gmini port revival???
« on: November 03, 2006, 03:57:51 PM »
Hey guys!
I bought a few times ago an archos Gmini Xs 202 and I saw how great a jukebox could be when using your firmware.
Unfortunately, I saw the port has been stalled since the main developper has taken a break...
SO I wondered if I could help revive the project as I have some coding skills and i've done some embedded systems stuff (Microcontroller coding, I2C bus and some USB, all in C of course :) ). I guess that I'll need plenty of help, and if some of you are ready to give me some, Let's Roll !!!

You're up for an uphill battle of huge proportions.

First, the gcc port for CalmRISC is available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gemoss/

The gmini port has stalled for a very long time, and since gmini was the only 16 bit platform, you'll most likely face a lot of int/long-related problem to start with.

I don't think the gmini guys ever found out how to run the firmware "properly", but they always started it via some exploit.

CalmRISC is Hardward architecture, so it will require quite some special code rather than the flexible plugin/codec approach we have for all other existing targets.
