ipod mini: "Rockbox error -1" when trying to uninstall
shrek:
Hi, sorry but i dont have any manual as such as the moment so what would the procedure be for replacing the bootloader?
I pm'ed the Op of the other thread and this is what he asked:
"When you installed Rockbox with the Installer, was the iPod clean (of Rockbox) initially?
What it does is write the extracted bootpartition to the iPod, so if anything was on there when you first installed then that will be in your extracted bootpartition"
Sorry but im not sure what this all means.
thanks again scorche :)

If you don't know what someone means, it is typical to ask that person. ;)
He is asking if the ipod had been modified at all before you used the installer. However, anything to do with the installer, please talk to him about as it is his project and is unsupported by us.
It is sounding like you do not have a clean backup of bootpartition.bin though, in which case, you will need to use apple's restore utility (which will format the device), or find a very generous person with the same device as you who has that backup. If you find such a person and get that file, follow the instuctions in the manual.
As for the manual, there is a link on the left side that says "manual". I would suggest that you check there. You *might* find something relating to the manual.

There is a "manual" link on the left pane of this website. I suggest you to download and read the appropriate one as it might answer quite some questions. (Unofficial installers and such aren't covered of course) Btw. you can even read the needed sections of the manual online, so as long as you have an internet connection (and access to rockbox.org) you in fact have access to the official manual.
Kreator666:
What everybody else has been saying is right.
Either you used the installer with the Rockbox bootloader already installed on the iPod, or you installed the bootloader twice (effectively being the same as the previous possibility).
The bootpartition.bin that is used for uninstalling must be clean or else it will not work.
So yes, the only way to fix it is to find yourself a clean bootpartition.bin from the same iPod (and firmware version presumably), or do an Update/Restore as I advised you in the PM.

I have the same problem only I have a black 60GB iPod Video. I deleted everything from my ipod that had the name "rockbox" in it and also deleted my initial installation folder containg the clean bootpartition.bin. I used itunes to restore and upgrade the iPod and it appears that there are no files on the iPod but that there is only 55.45 GB of free space on a 60 GB model. I booted the iPod in disk mode with the select + play buttons and it loaded the rockbox style "do not disconnect" screen with the smaller "anti" sign as opposed to the original larger red anti sign of the iPod OS. So what I gather from what I've read in this post is that even though it shows that there aren't any files on the iPod when I check it on my computer, there is still a hidden bootloader from Rockbox that remains even after I've restored the iPod. So aside from restoring and upgrading the firmware (which I've already done) what can I do now that I don't have the original backup? I have a friend that has the same iPod only it's white. Can I copy the file I'm missing from hers? Sorry for the long message. Any help is greatly appreciated.
