Major problem with Nano when battery is completely drained
« on: October 27, 2006, 03:54:18 PM »
This is the 3rd time in a row this has happened... and it's quite annoying. I hope someone can help!

Problem: when the battery drains completely on my Nano, it won't reboot into Rockbox (or AppleFW). After recharging, and powering on: as the screen goes dark, and then the apple logo appears, it then immediately flashes into screen with a whitebackground and a picture of a folder with the URL "http://support.apple.com"

To fix this, I have used Apple's Ipod Updater software, which completely wipes the memory and installs the AppleFW. Then I had to reinstall Rockbox from scratch and restore my tunes manually. Very frustrating... is there an easier way?

Any help is much appreciated!

I just had the same problem and the way i fixed it was to just let it try to recharge and soon its going to have enough power to boot and stay booted, or so i think. anyway it stopped when i let it charge for a little while.

I tried that method as well.. and it didn't work for me.  I left the unit charging via USB for at least one day, and still no luck getting it to boot into anything at all. Let me know if your experience is different.

When it is in that state, what happens if you reset by pressing and holding Menu + Select?

It reboots, and then goes right back into the same state. It's strange just how fast it boots into the weird screen... it only takes a few seconds from the reboot (e.g. dark screen, then apple logo appears, then weird screen appears).

You need to try to get into disk mode, be faster. It works, trust me.

Once you get into diskmode, it should stay booted at least for awhile, a few seconds. Keep doing that so that your battery can get the charge it needs. Then after a bit, it should be able to boot normally.
