New Hardware Suggestions Requested
Neff:
I've had my iRiver H140 for some time now and I've been very happy with it.... but it's full. I need more that 40Gb.
What would people recommend as a replacement? I know there is the option of upgrading the disc on my H140. But a colour display with the album art patches would kinda be nice. I don't use the remote control as much as I used to so the lack of that is no longer a deal breaker.
Are the new 80Gb iPods RockBox compatible?
What ever happened to the Gigabeat port?
What iAudio players are there that are 60Gb or better and that are RockBox compatible?

No, not yet at least.

It is still work in progress.

iAudio X5 is available in 60GB and runs Rockbox very good.
Neff:
So the iAudio X5 is a prime candidate then.
Has anyone here upgraded their hard disc? Are the 80Gb units still hideously expensive?
I'm just wondering why every time some manufacturer (other than Apple) announces a new player it seems to be 4 Gig. Even items marketed as video players don't seem to have more than 20 Gig.

It depends on what kind of drive the unit takes. I just upgraded my Archos Recorder V1 (which takes a standard 2.5" notebook HD) to 80gb and it cost me about US $70.
Neff:
To fit an 80Gb drive in the H140 case I'd need a Toshiba MK8007GAH (I think) which despite being announced ages ago doesn't seem to be available to consumers to buy.
The 60Gb version is about 120 GBP so I've no idea what the 80Gb would cost. And at those prices and the risk of me messing things up, a new player sounds like a reasonable alternative.
