Install/upgrade questions

(1/1)

SoulDeaD:
Hi all, first of all i would like to say a great thanks to those who made it possible to have something amazing installed on my iPod nano.

Second - offtopic because there is no thread about the forum itself- it was verry hard for me to see the text in the picture in the registration form(this picture that protects the forum from bots). I did it on the 12th try!

And the real question is:

During the installation process, does the bootpartition.bin get modified? I am asking this question because i dont't remember if i made a backup ot the bootpartition, and if i did - where it is.

Llorean:
Please don't post unrelated questions in the same topic. Forum concerns have absolutely *nothing* to do with the Apple Installation/Removal section.

As for your second question: During the install process, the file bootpartition.bin is never modified. IF you do run ipodpatcher -r N bootpartition.bin a second time (or dd / diskdump if you're doing it on non-windows systems) you can accidentally overwrite it with a modified one though. If you don't, then the file should be the clean original.

You can post those questions in the general forum.

From the sticky in that forum:

--- Quote ---Posts in this forum should be questions that do not seem to fit in other forums, or questions regarding Rockbox as a project, or the website Rockbox is on.

Also, there is a "Listen to the letters" link that we have for our blind users.  If you have trouble reading it, you could always have used this.

What do you mean exactly?  The copy of bootpartition.bin on your computer is the original.  If you were to extract the copy that is on your ipod, it would not be the original as *that* one was modified.

If you cannot remember where you saved the bootpartition.bin, you can try searching your entire drive for it.  If a search does not turn it up, you are out of luck through that route.  If you want it again, you would have to ask another person for their's or use apple's restore tool.

EDIT: /me snaps his fingers...not quick enough :(

SoulDeaD:
Ok, both of you answered my question, thanks, and sorry for the other parth of the post that was unrelated to the topic.

Wish you luck and all the best,
SoulDeaD
