iPod: Can uninstall--files in use or corrupted (was: URGENT HELP NEEDED)
« on: October 26, 2006, 06:32:30 PM »
Right, well ive tried to remove rockbox coz my itunes doesnt like it and songs keep disapearing but there are files on my ipod that cant be deleted because there in use or corrupt. Ive followed the instruction in the cmd and deleted what i was told to but the rockbox folder wount go. Also when i try  ipod updater it tells me its lock and may be in use with another program!

Moderator's rewrite (for the benefit of others with a similar problem looking for a solution via search):

I've tried to remove Rockbox because iTunes doesn't like it and songs keep disappearing.  [Moderator's note:  the Installation section of the Rockbox Manual addresses this issue.]  However, there are files on my iPod that can't be deleted because they're in use or corrupt.  I've followed the instruction in the cmd and deleted what I was told to delete, but I cannot delete the Rockbox folder.  When I try to use the iPod updater, it tells me that the Rockbox folder is locked and may be in use with another program.

1) PLEASE READ OUR FORUM GUIDELINES. They are in the announcements forum. Your post breaks them in more than one way.

2) Have you tried scandisk?

Read the guidelines. It's that simple. You'll know the mistakes you made once you've actually read them.

Scandisk reported no errors? Have you tried rebooting your iPod into emergency disk mode and removing the files like that?

Also, what *exactly* does the restore tool say?

Hope you dont mind me putting my 2 cents worth, I know this thread isnt technically  allowed, and llorean might want to remove/move it.

Anyway, fishlover900, it sounds like the pc still has memory of the file/folder in use. Close Explorer and any other programs that might be linked to the file/folder, then terminate the process itunes.exe and ipodservice.exe (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).

Plug in the ipod, make sure the processes mentioned above are NOT loaded.

Open Explorer again, and try deleting the file/folder. Or run the ipod updater, itll overwrite everything anyway.

Good luck.

No problem. Now you can sleep soundly eh!

By the way, I think the reason why your tracks in itunes dissapeared is because you have the version 1.2 of the Apple firmware. Ideally you need the older 1.1.1 to see everything again in the apple firmware.

I've changed the name of the thread to comply with forum guidelines and re-wrote the first post to correct the various spelling and grammar mistakes.  I'm doing this only because this thread contains useful advice, and I want to it be able to be found via search by others who may have the same issue.
