ipod 4g/dead

ipod went dead and does not appear to charge via usb.  worked fine just before dying, but then noticed battery low, battery wavered a bit, then dead.  just wondering if there are any ideas before I buy a new battery.

Try a mains charger? Maybe give it 48 hours before trying again. 4G ipods are a bit old now, and batteries I think were only meant to last a few years. Part of apples great masterplan.  

It shouldnt be too hard to replace it though. do a search on ebay for the battery, and there are website walkthroughs on how to replace ipod batteries.

Actually, it is a limitation of lithium-ion batteries.  From the change of Ni-MH to lithium-ion, they gained a lighter weight and longer lasting on a charge, but lost about a third of the long term battery life.

The ipod batteries have about 400 charge/discharge cycles before they start having a noticeable difference in life.

Thats true, but I was more implying that apple made it too difficult for the average user to replace the battery so are either forced to pay a big bill to get it replaced or buy a whole new player.
