Iriver H120: Volume knob on remote skipping directories
Mmmm:
It may also be that the instant the button is pressed gives a different value to the button being held. Maybe the pressed button value is so quick you don't see it....
Llorean:
That too is possible. There are a wide range of possibilities. :)

At Last! I though I was going mad, I've had this problem for ages.
I eventually went back to the iRiver firmware for a day and could not replicate the fault at all, so I updated to a new build (CVS-061019; I can't remember the one I was using previously), and this has nearly cured the problem, although I still get it occasionally.
It seems to occur if the volume button is pressed in the same direction twice or more in quick succession, as you would tapping to increase volume in steps. Being a bit less fidgetty and holding the button does not appear to cause a directory skip.
I was wondering if this habit of mine means the electrical contact is not properly formed, and the signal getting to the player is a bit noisy, resulting in a mis-decoded signal... or maybe not, I'm not so good with the electronics stuff.
At least it's not just me, or not just my player. Hopefully we can find a solution to this.

OK, I've looked at the code and its possible to tweak the decoding.
The only question is; patch for an individual machine or try to collect enough information to do a general fix(if required) ?
Anyhow I'll need to know what readings folks are getting for the following remote button presses;
Stop
Vol Down
Mode
Vol Up
Bitrate
Record
Source
Fast Forward
Menu
Rewind
You get them from; Manin Menu: Info > Debug (keep Out) > View I/O ports > and its the ADC_Remote line that you should see changing as you press buttons - exit the menu by the rewind button (so how did the devs work out how to map that button ;-)
I can't give the figures from our H120 as its flat and the charger is at work ...

Hi there!
Well, after having exclusively run the original firmware for a week I can affirm that it is probably due to a hardware problem with the remote. I did experience some strange things while trying to change the volume, but it happened only once, whereas with Rockbox it happens at least once every "session" (not very specific, I know :P ). So it seems that the Iriver firmware is more robust, perhaps something can be done in Rockbox as well.
