Donating hardware

I've had a iRiver IHP-120 20gb player for many years, and just recently I purchased a Sansa e280 8gb player. My iRiver is in near mint condition with not a single scratch on the body and I would like to donate it to any of the rockbox developers who might find a use for it, including:

A) Further development of rockbox
or
B) Personal leisure use

Using it for development is not required, but I would just like someone to have it that deserves it. If any of the devs would like it, I will be happy to ship it to you along with all of the peripherals I can find. My email address is in my profile. Bye.

You do know the Sansa port of Rockbox is seriously incomplete currently don't you ?

I simply stated that I purchased a Sansa. I made no mention of putting Rockbox on it. I've been using Rockbox since the days of the original Archos FM Recorder, I can wait. I don't know if you have  Sansa or not, but the default firmware is more than adequate for the time benig.

That's all good then - I just wanted to make sure you weren't immediately planning on Rockboxing it and were then going to be horribly disappointed AND have passed on your H1x0.

Well I guess now I have motivation to become a dev  . I hope your I river finds a happy home. Otherwise, if no one else decides to claim it I would be happy to.

  The H1xx series is a valuable piece of equipment, a quite mature Rockbox target, and a popular piece of kit amongst the developers.  I strongly suspect one donated to Rockbox will do little to advance the state-of-the-art.
  Selling it on eBay, and donating the money will probably do more for the current (and future) crop of Rockbox targets than the hardware itself.
  I strongly suspect you have received no legitimate bites at your offer because A)  some developers rarely read the forums, and B)  most everybody lusts in their heart after such a fine fine machine, but knows in their soul their acceptance of such a gift would benefit themselves far more than Rockbox as a whole.

C) Already has one, and would ask for it because they very very direly want redundant hardware in case the primary one someday fails, but know in their soul that asking for such a thing would be wrong.

I want to second, or third, the idea that donating a "normal" iriver h120 isn't gonna advance the project to any new levels.

Of course I'm still very grateful for the consideration and all.

However, I think it would be worth donating if it motivates a developer. My vote goes to Marianne Arnold, who just lost an Ebay action for an H120.

I hope she doesn't mind me posting this, but I don't consider it to be that private. Marianne emailed me, and offered to pay me for the iRiver what her lost ebay auction went for. I believe once converted to USD it was about $85. I have suggested to her that she simply donate this amount to Rockbox in my name, and I'll just mail her the iRiver. No point in sending the money two places since I don't want it.

I'm really really glad about this generous offer (which also contains shipping now) and I think that this way it will be at least a bit beneficial to the whole project.
