H140: Rockbox wil not boot

I have the same issue with my h140 not booting rockbox exactly as described in the thread below but did not see any final resolution.
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=5020.msg38435#msg38435

I did try loading ihp_100.hex but the h140 will not apply it, it does nothing when selecting upgrade firmware.  I have formatted both using swissknife and h140 format menu.  The previous rockbox bootloader for the h140 still comes up and still freezes at the result: 0 as before.  Is there a way to really wipe the firmware?  This is just so I can try the suggestion in the 38435 post to apply ihp_100.hex and see if helps to boot rockbox.

ihp_100.hex is for the H110 and H115, not the H140.

Use ihp_h120.hex instead.

"Result: 0" means that the rockbox.iriver file was successfully loaded, so it shouldn't be a partitioning problem at least. It seems the startup code in rockbox.iriver fails for some reason, and I'd guess it is caused by some hardware difference. E.g., it could be a difference in the amount of memory installed, so installing a H100 build could be worth a try.

This is what was suggested but not exactly clear to me if I was to try to load the ihp_h100.hex file in addition the h100 .rockbox build.  You may have to rename the hex file to h120 but I don't think that's what they meant.

Anyway, with the h120.hex firmware, the 100 build yields a result: -5 and kicks into the iriver firmware at boot.  The h120 build of course freezes at the result: 0.

Llorean:
With an H140 you must download the h120 bootloader NOT the h100 bootloader, use it to patch official h120 firmware, and copy an h120 build onto your player.

You should  NOT at ANY STEP in this process be renaming something for the h100 to h120.

Ok, didn't do that.  I upgraded the firmware with the patched ihp_120.hex and tried copying either the H120 or H100 build to the unit.  Does anyone have a clue as to way this is hanging on boot up?  I have another H140 unit for the last two years, puchased new, that works fine with the same firmware and builds.
