iPod nano shutdown = reboot ?

AHA!!  So since I got it for so cheap on eBay (well... relatively), I just opened it up, following directions for replacing logic boards (iFixit, I believe).  Lo and behold, here and there on close inspection there was some grayish gunk on the board near terminals and between .. transistors? sometimes making connections.  I dunno if it was rust, and if it was, don't know if it was conducting, but I scraped off as much as I could (without causing damage) around things that looked like transistors, the power contacts near the bottom, and even between the contacts to what I think were the memory chips (black rectangles closest to the connector port).  And it worked!  It shuts down now!  And shows actual battery level, in both firmwares!

Previous owner might have dropped it in some liquid. Just hope it wasn't the toilet...

I also am kind of annoyed that I already left feedback, considering s/he could have warned me about the shutdown thing (since it was happening in Apple firmware).  But all's well that ends well.

Of course, I may have to open it up again, since I'm not sure I pushed the click wheel ribbon far enough in... kind of goes wonky on rare occasion.  But I know that's fixable, and I know how to fix it!

Hope this will help other people with similar problems, although I guess one would suspect it from already knowing it fell into a puddle/lake/sink/what-have-you.

While this info might help some people, it may be even more helpful on a wiki page.  Perhaps on an FAQ or a troubleshooting page?

Also, the forum guidelines ask that you modify your previous message rather than posting a new one if no one else has posted yet.

i have the same problem.  using the latest release version 3.3 on a 1g 2gb nano.  when i hold the play/pause button it says shutting down, and it goes to the apple logo and back into rockbox.  if i put the hold switch on it will go into the apple firmware and i can turn it off from there, but then i have to reset with menu and select to get back into rockbox.

my ipod does not think it's always charging.  i have had no problems shutting down before rockbox.  this problem has been occuring ever since i've started using rockbox.  i have not tried any other versions.  my ipod is in pristine condition and has never been wet or exposed to highly humid conditions.  i'm tempted to try to pry it open to see if there's any corrosion or anything like yeabirfday had, but as i said, it's in pristine condition and i dont want to risk damaging the casing if i dont have to.

can anyone help fix this problem?
