Problem playing LONG file on 5gen IPod

(1/2) > >>

bpmcgee:
Hi,

My 60GB iPod seems, in general, to work really well with RockBox.  Congrats (and thanks) to everyone for their hard work.

The problem I have is when playing long .mp3 files (about 10 minutes).  It will begin with some short clicks or stutters in the playback, and increase to longer stutters which sound like a record slipping it's groove.

My WPS doesn't use anything fancy like sound meters, and I have the EQ turned off.

Is this a known problem, or would you like me to post more information?

Brian

Chronon:
I haven't noticed this with my 5g 60GB iPod.

Some clarifications just in case:

- which generation iPod is it?
- what bitrate are the mp3s and VBR/CBR, etc.
- does the problem happen faster if you turn on EQs?

I don't have an answer, but this info may help others to diagnose what you are experiencing.

bpmcgee:
- 5gen (I thought I'd mentioned this, sorry).
- 256kbps fixed rate.
- I don't know, I've never turned it on.  Seems like if I DID turn it on, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this problem and the problem of skipping when the EQ was on.

A couple of other questions:

Does it happen at the same time for each such file?
What build are you using?
Is this a recent problem or has it persisted across multiple builds?

Sorry, I don't have any useful suggestions other than trying another build to see if the problem goes away.  I used to have issues with some of my AACs pausing intermittently because the codec could not quite decode them real time but I haven't had this problem in quite a while.  The mp3 codec is supposed to be better than real time now so I don't think the same sort of problem is causing this.  Hopefully someone else with more insight will see this.

If it's any consolation I haven't had any problems playing 320kbps mp3s (although they are generally shorter than 10 minutes).  I do have a couple of long mp3s I have just encoded that I will test out and see if I can reproduce this behavior.

bpmcgee:
Chronon,

No, it doesn't happen at the same point in each file, but it DOES happen at roughly the same spot if the same file is played repeatedly.

CVS-060926

I've only used the one build.

Brian
