File Upload Problem
« on: October 19, 2006, 12:39:55 PM »
Just installed Rockbox on my Ipod 3G. Works fine but the problem is I cant upload any files onto it because my system doesn't "see" it. With Itunes you can see ipod as external drive but nothing happens with rockbox. Although it charges it. Any ideas anyone???

I run 3rd generation ipod with rockbox on powermacG5/OS X Tiger. Hope I explained myself clear. Thanks in advance

If your system doesn't "see" the ipod, how did you manage to install a build?

Are you saying that the iPod switches to Disk Mode and then the computer doesn't see it properly?  If that's the case then it's nothing to do with Rockbox since that's Apple's software.  iTunes should be able to see an iPod that is in Disk Mode.  Also, your Mac should recognize it as at least a USB mass storage (UMS) device.

Something you say sounds strange.  When you say it charges it, do you mean that Rockbox is still running or that it charges while in Disk Mode?  Clarify please.

Have you followed this procedure described in The Rockbox Manual?

Quote
Note: Your player should enter disk mode automatically when connected to a computer via USB. If your computer does not recognise your player, you may need to enter the disk mode manually. Disconnect your player from the computer. Reset the player by pressing and holding the Menu and Select buttons simultaneously. As soon as the player resets, press and hold the Menu and Play  buttons simultaneously. Your player should enter disk mode, and you can try reconnecting to the computer.

I'll try to explain myself again. When you connect ipod to computer it recognizes it as storage device would it be pc or mac. In my case on mac ipod worked perfectly with apple soft on it. I installed rockbox on ipod and rebooted it. After that my system does not does mount ipod as storage device. In fact nothing happens when i connect it to mac (except it still charges it as I mentioned before). I'm new to this so sorry for my unclear explanations.

Quick note: my ipod 3g uses firewire not usb if it does make any difference.

I really like rockbox due to it's wide range of options and would like to keep it. But if I can't upload any files there's not much use for it. Thanks a lot for help

Rockbox does not support firewire at this time. You must reboot it manually into disk mode or the retail firmware to establish a firewire connection.
