rockboy?

Please bear with me as I am quite new to this sort of thing--but I can't find rockboy on my rockbox.  Has it been left out of recent builds?

I admit to using Rockbox Installer X--which was great--instantaneous and painless--unless it somehow left out parts of the installation...

If you read up in the manual you will find that Rockboy is treated as a viewer and is not listed in the plugins list.  To launch it just browse to a file that you want to open and open it.  Rockboy will be launched automatically whenever Rockbox is asked to open .gb or .gbc files.

But you will save a lot of time if you give the manual a read.   :)

Also RockBoy doesn't work on alot of DAPs so it won't be in your build if it doesn't work on your player.

He said he used Installer X, which means he is using an Ipod, and rockboy is supported on colour and video Ipods (I think).

Yes it's supported on some iPods, but it isn't supported on all iPods.
