hi; it seems to me that I have the some prob using Windows XP Pro SP2 platform

I have a iPod 5 60GB refurnished Version FW 1.12 german.

i load the software mentioned here http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation and followed the step as written.

First difference at g) testing failed and what i saw is the mentioned pic by alecjw

The restore using iTunes 7 or Updater 2006-06-28 [use iTunes to update] and 2005-10-15 [device error] done not work. ITunes tells me that the iPod is in maintance mode; pressing the restore button Itunes says there is no connection to reach the update server; whats wrong because there is a connection and the firewall is also disabled.

any tipps to bring back the ipod to 'normal' life thx in advance

one additional thing: if the ipod is in disk mode within iTunes everything looks fine; i see the version and all the tabs at the top but the recovery does not work either. I also see my few music files and the video. the Music and video can be played with iTunes 7, but not with the ipod.

could help myself found the command to restore the original FW 'ipodpatcher -w N bootpartition.bin' ; Think it only works if you still have the inital bootpartion.bin. Now I'm happy again. But what went wrong, here did i the mistake. Never saw this at mentioned step:

" ...You should now see a light blue screen with some tiny writing - this is the Rockbox bootloader. Because you haven't yet installed Rockbox itself, the bootloader will fail to start Rockbox and should then default to start the original Apple firmware. If this happens, then all has gone well. If it freezes with the bootloader on the screen, this is not a major problem. Sometimes it has difficulty falling back to retail when rockbox.ipod doesn't exist on the disk. You will see a message saying "Rockbox Error: -1" as the last message, and this is the bootloader telling you it couldn't find the rockbox.ipod file. Simply hold Menu+Select (Menu+Play for 3G users) until the screen clears, and then hold Select+Play (REW+FFWD for 3G users) until you enter disk mode. Then continue with the install process. The fact that it showed the bootloader text is enough to indicate this portion of the install succeeded. ..."

Ah. Sorry. I've been very stupid. I did the serial code test but that said my iPod was a 5g. I've just done the sector size test and the does-your-ipod-have-new-headphones test which say it's a 5.5g. I got it a couple of weeks ago. 3 out of 4 - it must be a 5.5g.

So does anyone know vaguely when rockbox for 5.5g's gonna be released?

Thanks

Llorean:
It'll be released when someone figures out how to make it work. There's no way to estimate, even vaguely, when this will be.
