Audio skips every 3-4 seconds + mix not working

Hi, this looks like an interesting experiment which I will look into at the weekend  For obvious reasons the debug menu is not speech enabled, but then again this does mean that I'll have to get someone to help read the screen for me.  If I can just say that it is a shame that not all of the menus are voice enabled (i.e even with the voice set to 'on' they do not speak) as some of the most enthusiastic tweakers and audio geeks I know are visually impaired and would love to play around with the settings and debug info.Oh well, maybe it'll come.

BTw, all problems sorted.  No skips, no jumps, no stutters.  I have my software EQ enabled as well as the hardware one, but just toned down the gains a bit - i.e bands 0 and 1 set to 30 and 30 instead of the 50 and 35 that was set with the 'bass' preset.

Just want to say "THANKS" for the insight on this thread.  I downloaded the last config01.cfg file from Husseins last post in this thread to my iPod and after rebooting, my skipping has stopped.  I had toyed around with disabling all EQ settings, resetting, etc., to no avail.

The skipping was worse (every 5-10 sec) when the WPS was displayed (every three seconds if the WPS had a peak meter).  Switching to a "menu" view decreased the skipping to every 30 seconds or so.

Now with the new .cfg file ...skipping is eliminated.  I only tweaked a few settings like backlight settings, menu speech, EQ off, etc.

For n00bs like me, to make this work:
save the config file to your .rockbox directory,
 then goto:
"menu"
"manage settings"
"browse .cfg files"
select and "play" the config01.cfg file (which you downloaded to the iPod).
This will "install" the settings in the config01.cfg file.

Should make this thread a sticky!

Cheers,
Doc

Hi there,  glad I was able to help, however indirectly.  I tend to prefer more bass on my music, so others downloading the config file who aren't so keen on it may want to turn it down.
Glad you got it working though.

Hussein.

Here's my config.cfg file (your modified for EQ, speech, backlight on button press).

After playing around with it for the last couple hours... it still skips.  DRAT, and I apologize for posting my previous post before thorough testing.

Skipping only in WPS mode, and I can hear the HD spin up and the HD symbol come on the screen.

In "menu" mode... no skipping.

I've tried all the WPS's, and all skip about every 11-20 seconds, but the worst have the peak meters, which skip every 3-5 seconds:
marquee
rockbox_default

No real difference between 128k, 160k and 192k noticed.

Testing on AC wall powered 3g iPod.

FW:  061030
(tried 061104, but it would crash while playing music in "menu" mode)

Still tryin',

I get this on my H10, but I'm pretty certain it's the peak meter; if I switch to a menu view, the music plays in the background fine. So I guess it's the peak meter stealing all my CPU, but I'm not sure how to turn it off, doesn't seem to be a menu option.

EDIT: just found another post saying that the peak meter causing skipping on the H10 is a known issue... http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=7201.0
