Can you give the link for the X5 program that does this?
I have written such a program for the iRiver H3xx players long ago. H3Tool can resize to screen size or a multiple of screen size. It is written in C#, that means it runs only under Windows. A port to mono would make it platform independent with a relatively small(?) effort but at the moment i have no time for it  :(

the main thing i think it should do: commit tagcache, resize + make thumbnails of pictures (should be more...)
