iRiver H340 - ATA Error
« on: October 14, 2006, 10:27:35 AM »
Hey, Im new to Rockbox, and Im quote intrigued with the whole project, I attempted to install it myself and I get the follwing error on bootup

ATA Error:  -32
Insert USB Cable and press a button

Now, I followed the instructions to the letter, and I am using 1.29Kr Firmware and apparently patched correctly, also I am using the latest daily build, but I also attempted older versions, with the same result.

I was told it could be a hardware issue, In which i scandisked the hdd, with no errors shown, I was told it could also be battery related, but someone will have to explain that to me.. the firmware states

Batt : 3.67

when booting up, but I have just noticed the last boot it said 3.70, So i dont know if it has any bearing on it, but could that be related to hte battery issue?

Anyway any information or advise would be appriciated

Thanks

The number after battery is the voltage, so it has gone down from 3.7 V to 3.67 V after some use!  I don't know anything about your problem I'm afraid, but the voltage should be OK - however you could try charging it, full is around 4.13 V IIRC

Does it boot when the charger is plugged in?

I have tried a full charge of the unit, in which it states the voltage is 4.14 BUT, I stil lget the exact same error as before.

Can ANYONE help shed some light on this, what about the developers, what does the error imply?

This is really sad, there not one person in the development community... who can or is willing to help

At the very least, as my last post, whats the error imply?

Remember that very few developers read this forum.

The error implies that there is something wrong with the ATA bus connection. It often helps to open it up and reseat the hard drive, but it may very well be a bug in Rockbox or a battery problem.

I got the same problem with my H140, i smashed the player a bit hard against a table while being in my jacket, it was not on at that moment. When i wanted to hook it up to a pc it didnt work.
When i started it readed ata-error -32 en when i booted in iriver software (by holding the rec button, i dont know if this is possible with the H340) i got the message: "Check HDD connection".
So the problem is probably a hardware error: a loose contact of the HD, anyway i firmly smashed my player against a book and after a while hooked it up and it worked and was playing Pearl Jam. 8-)
First think i did was removing the rockbox firmware so i can ship it for repair if needed. I was probably very lucky with is and the player is working fine now.
