Playback Navigation Button problems on mini iPods (2nd gen)
« on: October 11, 2006, 06:16:42 PM »
Hello

The response of the navigation keys in iPod mini (2nd gen) seems to be problematic under the Rockbox firmware. To be more specific.

The left/right & play/pause buttons randomly do not respond or respond very slowly to key presses. This is most noticable during playback. Yesterday for example I wanted to pause the playback and couldn't. I had to try many times in order to succeed. I have tried a clean install and the problem is still there. I have tried different firmware builds with the
latest been the one released on 10/10

I am sure it is the Rockbox firmware to blame as when I am going back to the original Apple firmware the buttons respond immediately and all the time. I know that there is no stable release yet but the navigation problems basically make this firmware useless on iPod minis.

Does any other user have similar problems ? I hope that someone from the developers can test this and if possile fix it.

Questions:

Do you have fade on stop/pause enabled? (It's enabled by default.)
Have you disabled "First keypress enables backlight." or whatever it's called.

Both of these settings, if enabled, can SEEM to cause problems very similar to what you're describing simply because they change the way things work enough that if you aren't expecting it, it seems to be not responsive.

The 'Fade on Stop/Pause' was enabled but the 'First Keypress Enables Backlight Only' was already disabled.
I have disabled the fading, will test it and come back to you.
