Tagcache Question

(1/1)

radink:
Hey Guys.. .New rockBox user. Love the fact that I no longer am a prisoner to apple's software.

I completely erased my iPod and installed rockbox. I'm putting music on via just copying the files from explorer. Since, I'm not using iTunes to copy over music, do I need tag cache at all? I didn't seem to pick up on this in the manual. I'm assuming no, but what are the advantages of using it vs. not using it.

Thanks!

mikeage:
No, you don't _need_ tagcache, per se, if you're content to navigate files exclusively by the directory structure.

Sometimes, though, it's useful to be able to browse by album, or by artist, or by genre, etc. For that, you can use tagcache

Llorean:
TagCache provides a way to search for files by metadata (ID3 tags, vorbis comments, whatever) and can be handy.

On the other hand if your files are in a well enough organized structure on the disk, well, many people see no use for it at all. :)
