iriver h10 repeat a-b help

I'm having trouble setting the markers for the repeat a-b mode.  the manual says hold play and press right and left to set the points, that doesn't seem to work, and I'm not entirely sure what buttons those instructions are refering too.  

i've tried both using the actual play button in conjuction with rewind and fast foward, and the play button with the <- and o buttons. then i've tried the o button with ff-rewind, the o button with the power button and play, basically every combination I can think of, someone please help.

First you have to set the Repeat mode to A-B. In the menu:
General Settings > Playback > Repeat

well of course I set it to repeat A-B mode, I didn't mention that because I assumed that would be a given if I was trying to use the feature.

Many people don't know about the option in the menu, as they haven't read the manual or looked.

We can't really afford to assume that you've followed the proper steps simply because in most cases that's not the case, so if you don't mention a step that you took all we can do is assume you left out the step during your attempt.

Anyway, it's possible that the manual doesn't have the proper button mappings for this yet (it's also possible that button mappings doen't exist properly for it yet on the H10.)

Try holding down whichever button would normally pause playback and pressing the previous track button to set A, and next track button for B. That seems the most likely combination (I really don't know if you've already tried that as I don't have an H10 so don't have any clue what <- and o do/mean)

It's quite likely that the manual doesn't have the proper button mappings in a lot of places.
With regard to the A-B repeat thing, there isn't a button mapping yet, hence it not working! I'm open to suggestions for a mapping. If someone comes up with a good one, I'll add it.

the setup that Llorean mentioned: pause with rewind and fast forward seems logical to me.

I tried that key mapping and found it not all that easy to use because long hold of play is mapped to stop. I decided instead to go with power and rew/play/ff for set a/reset/set b respectively. It is reasonably easy to use that way, although I am open to alternative suggestions.

that sounds like a fine set up as well, will this be should it be working in the current build now?

Yes, it should be in the current CVS build.
