TagCache Issue? (Mods: Move Thread if Needed)
« on: October 08, 2006, 02:13:38 PM »
Wow, been a while since I have posted. I stopped using RockBox for a while after I thought it killed my last iPod's battery, but I think I might have just gotten unlucky.

Well, I'm back and now I am trying to dual-boot between the Apple firmware and the RockBox firmware. Since I use iTunes to sync everything (I'm a video podcast junkie, I need iTunes and the Apple firmware!) I am trying out TagCache for the first time.

I read the docs, set my settings (Load to RAM, Auto-Update, Show Files->ID3 Database) and hit "Initialize Now". The disk spins for a second or two and then stops. The iPod doesn't crash or anything, but when I try to play a song, it says "TagCache is not ready!". I know it takes time and when you have around 3,000 songs, I would expect it to, but just letting the iPod sit there for 20 minutes hasn't done it.

I am thinking there may be a problem since the disk stops spinning after such a short amount of time. I would expect that if it was indexing all the ID3 tags of all my files, the disk would churn during the whole process.

Any ideas?

I'm using the Julius custom build (most recent) if that helps and I installed using the RockBox installer for Windows, Bootloader 2. After installation I copied over the Julius build and the jclix WPS.

DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS IN THE OFFICIAL FORUMS ABOUT UNSUPPORTED BUILDS.

This is *period.* It doesn't matter if the bug is caused by the unsupported build, or if you think it isn't. Until you can prove that the bug happens in the official build, do not ask about it. Once you're using an official build, if it happens, continue using the official build until your problem has been resolved. Do not switch back to the unofficial and unsupported build during testing.

As for your problem, its likely that your video podcasts have the .mp4 extension as well, in which case TagCache may be choking on them. I really couldn't say, and it's also equally possible just a problem with your build.

Edit: changed the word "build" to "bug".

Understood. I'll remove the custom build and see what happens.

I'll check back when I do.

Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT: Removed the jbuild and it works.

Julius needs to update his build so I can use his themes again.
He does such good work. :D
