H100 - bootloader error -5

I have a H100 and I have tried to follow all the intructions but I can't get past the bootloader starting, but then saying error -5 and shifting over to the iriver firmware. I have been told that the bootloader patch was successful, and the rockbox folder and file are both at the top level of my F drive. Any help would be very welcome.

Try deleting the rockbox file and folder and redownloading them. Yours may be corrupt. But the good news is, your bootloader should be/is fine.

No dice. I even tried other days versions of Rockbox. But the bootloader USB thing works still, so I am inclined to agree that the bootloader is not the problem.  Thanks though.

Do you have an H110/115 or an H120/140, by the way?

I assume that you're 100% sure you've got the right version downloaded (the H100 version for the 110/115, and the 120 version for the 120/140)?

I have an H140 and I have tried the EU and US versions without any difference in the result. the Iriver firmware loads as usual if I select that, but when I start in bootloader, the checksums do not agree and I get the error -5, then the iriver makes a bit of a grind sound and reverts to the iriver firmware. I have not yet been able to find anything on the forum that has been clear about what this error -5 means.

The EU and US versions of what? We're talking about ROCKBOX here.

You named the post H100. So, did you download the H100 Rockbox, or the H120 Rockbox like you're supposed to?

sorry, it's a bit later than I am usually on the computer at.
I have been using the H120 Rockbox - I have tried different daily versions of it. and because they were making no difference, I also tried changing the iriver firmware from EU to US versions and then running the fwpatcher on that to see if that made a difference.
ah, erm, on second thoughts, no. I have been using the H100 file (slams own head in a door repeatedly). Can we just pretend this never happened? sorry. Thanks.
