Help with Music names
« on: October 05, 2006, 08:23:36 PM »
ok... so i am preaty sure that this has been asked before lol.. i tryed going into some threads to find the solution but its just getting me more confused...
ok.
so im using Rockbox on my Ipod g5. ... turn it on List of things Calander, notes, music and such. (i figured out how to get the actual folders on there..) i click music and i see somthing like this
f01
f02
f03
......
through
f049

after i go into one. i see music files with the names

AHIE
KEID
LSOD
EKRI
LDOE
SJSY
SJJS
....
then i click on one of the files and it starts to play the song. in the Player screen it show the real name and artist and everything
My question is how do i get This area (
f01
f02
...
f049
To show as the names of the artists
and the
AKEI
SLOE
AJSI
SKEI

TO show the names of the songs while browsing this list...
( and i know its ID3)
i just cant figure out how to get it Like normal music browsing names
Please help =)

You're in the filetree. You'll see what the files are physically named, so the simple solution if you wish to keep using the filetree is to rename the files. This of course will prevent the Apple firmware from knowing where to find your files, though.

The other solution is to simply use TagCache.

Could you try being a little more clear about what problem you're having? I can't understand what's going wrong for you now.

Ok after u turned it on. i held Menu and then u can see at the bottem to choose what files to view. i set it to Id3.
after i did this the list that i go through for finding music became much similar to using the ipod before i put rockbox on. but when i click say. A perfect circle. and i go into to album called eMOTIVE there should be 12 songs to that album but i am only seeing 7 show up on the list.
On another subject the songs i do happen to see are orderd alfabeticly. is there any way to make it so its in the order they would be on the CD? is there an option to do that?

Please do not use abbreviations like "u". Our forum guidelines are fairly clear on what is or is not acceptable here.

Are you sure all of your files are properly tagged, and that you gave TagCache enough time during the initialization to finish finding all your songs? Have you tried re-initializing TagCache?

Sorry about the abrreviations..

Well i must have not givin it enough time. i will try to re- initilize it and wait longer.  because when i am browsing i also get    [codec failur]  when the highlighted bar is on some songs.
i am guessing it says that because it hasent sorted them out yet? or its trying to alter them in some way and its moving the files..?. or somthing... mabey i have no clue what im Doing :-\

Thanks for the help

mabey u shud read the manual.

Seriously, though, this exactly issue is described in the manual.  Read the section on Playing and Browsing and make sure you go through the proper steps to initialize the Tag Cache.
