Tagcache issue, H120
« on: October 04, 2006, 08:01:43 PM »
Hey everyone,

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything about it. I'm trying to get Tagcache working on an H120, and I'm a little stuck. I've gone through initialization at least a dozen times now, and it doesn't hang or return any error messages. Afterward, when I change my file vew to ID3 Database, it continues to tell me that "Tagcache is not ready." I've tried the daily build, I am now running CVS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is the only thing in the way of me enjoying Rockbox.

The debug info is as follows:

Initialized: Yes
DB Ready: No
RAM Cache: No
RAM: 0/0 B
Progress: -1% (0 entries)
Commit step: 0
Commit delayed: No

*edit* My apologies, looks like I posted this to the wrong area. I'm still having the problem, but I'll look a bit deeper there.

Have you tried after initializing the tagcache, shutting down the player and restarting? You never mentioned doing a proper shutdown. Does it say "Committing Tagcache" when you do so?

Just tried it. It said "Committing Tagcache [1/7]" for about a half second then went straight to root. Still getting "Tagcache is not ready."

The commit isn't completing. Some questions:

What build are you using?

What format are your files in?

I'm currently using version 061004-2116. As far as I know, my files are uniformly in MP3 format.

"As far as I know" sounds like there's some uncertainty to the question. Do you know anything about the tagging of your files (for example, no ApeV2 tags on them? Any album art?)

Nearly all of my music has been run through mood logic's ID3 fixing. There are a few that have been added since I stopped using mood logic, and I'm not sure about the tags on those. The vast majority of files have no album art, though there are one or two in there, pulled from iTunes.  Is there another tag fixing app that you would recommend?

I have no idea what you mean by "tag fixing". I do not know what exactly it is mood logic does to "fix" tags, so referencing it means very little to me.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what it did either. It renamed all of the files in a consistant way, grouped them into directories by artist name, and filled in missing ID3 info. Whether it added anything else, I'm not sure.

You should probably check that none of the files have ApeV2 tags on them, and remove album art on the ones that have it.

I can't imagine that they would, I've never used anything that uses ApeV2. Still, I'll check.

Well since you seem uncertain as to what format they're in, as well as to how they're tagged, I was working on the assumption that it isn't all music that you yourself have ripped.

Not all, no, but mostly. There were a few albums in there given to me by friends, and I'm not sure exactly how they were ripped. It's been a long time since I even looked at this collection... I'd thought my H120 was fried, and all the tracks along with it.

Do you know of an app I can use to scan for ApeV2?
