forum-wiki wps relay and getting write permission to post in the wiki

(1/2) > >>

denny:
Hi,

I'm having trouble getting my wps into the wiki. I registered a long while back but my account was deleted because it was inactive. The reason i never posted my wps there was because i dont realy understand it (and do you need to ask for write pemission to post wps's?).

Then i came up with an idea. The problem is it goes against the rules for posting in this forum. Basically it would involve a stickied thread in which people post their wps's in a strict fashion. eg.

Name and model/screensize its designed for
____

____

link to their file

This format would then be relayed to the wiki by someone or a group of invividuals, volunteers, who allready have knowlege of the wiki. Allowing users who would not usually post .wps's in the wiki (such as many MisticRiver users) to quickly add theirs and expanding the rockbox wps collection.

I'm well aware this may not be a popular idea but just thought i might as well suggest it as it would make things alot easier for some.

If this is not possible, or gains no support then i ask:
1. do i need to ask for write permission to post wps's in the gallery
2. if i do can i obtain write permission through the forums? I have no idea about IRC.

cheers, denny.

I think that the existing system works fine.  All you need to do to get your WikiName approved is to ask in IRC, which you can access right here:

http://www.rockbox.org/irc/cgiirc/irc.cgi

I don't like the idea of having themes "relayed" from the forum to the wiki.  The whole point of specifying the wiki for the WPS gallery is to have a single repository for themes and WPSes, and to avoid having them spread out in various places across the wiki, forums, etc.

denny:
The existing system is only lacking in the fact it is not realy easy to upload your theme. Thanks for the info on getting approved and the link   :).

just as a note, in my origional post i forgot to mention that the .wps posts in the thread would be deleted as soon as moved to the wiki, reducing fragmentation.

Febs:
It's also not very difficult.  Anyone with the ability to create a WPS in the first place should be able to figure out how to add it to the wiki.  I had very little difficulty doing so in the one instance when I posted a WPS.

denny:
True i suppose, but you cant fault me for wanting to make things easier.

...I've also just registered and asked for my name to be approved in the IRC channel but shortly after i was disconnected and for some reason i cant get back on  ???
