Firmware switcher
« on: October 04, 2006, 12:49:11 AM »
is there a plugin or something that will allow me to switch between apple firmware and rockbox?  all my music and videos are on the aplle side of the partitiong and i want to be able to access them without having to undo the part on my comp.  note i have found that you can access the music but it is all unsorted and i cant find the videos at all....any assistance?  I don't want to delete all the music of the apple side either.

Please, read the manual and/or the IpodFAQ page, and search the forums before asking questions. This is answered in the very least at IpodFAQ in the wiki, and should be in the manual as well. Not to mention being all over the forum.

Indeed, the Installation Instructions section of the Rockbox Manual for iPod platforms describes how to access your music through Rockbox using the Tag Cache.

you weren't able finding the "manual" link in the left navigation pane?

Seeig as so many new members seem to glaze over the manual link, we should change it to "NEW MEMBERS CLICK HERE BEFORE YOU ASK BASIC QUESTION IN OUR FORUM".
It would make the front page look hideous, but it would ensure that all new members read the manual and/or FAQ before posting.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

*gasps for breath*

They wouldn't read the stickied thread.  If you don't believe me, look at the Rockbox forums on Mistic River.

How about a check for how many posts you have made.  If it's under, say, 10, a page comes up with big links to the manual and wiki, and buried somewhere random on the page is a link to the forum. After 10 posts, that goes away and you get the normal forum.

I kind of like that idea, but it's perhaps a bit unworkable. How about viewing the FAQ being a mandatory part of registration for the forum (sort of like a EULA)?

And how many people click through EULAs without reading them. There is pretty much no way of enforcing reading of the FAQ before posting without making posting enough of a hassle that it will discourage users from signing up at all.

The best solution is to keep Llorean around to chew out those people who don't bother reading the FAQs / Manuals.
