Well, according to the apple website, mine doesnt have the right serial number to be a 5.5g. However, I'm starting to suspect they havent listed all the serial numbers. I've been chatting with people on #rockbox for two days, and we can't get it working. Somehow I got the 2048 bit sectors like the 5.5g. Not sure if its because I have a 5.5g or if the restore I did after screwing it up re-did the sectors or what...
Llorean:
Yeah, either the restore reformats 5Gs to the 2048 sector format, or their list of 5.5G serial numbers is somewhat off, but it is apparently possible to have an iPod that does not show up in their serial number range, that is impossible (at the moment) to install Rockbox on.

Call up Apple to check. It's really the easiest way.

--- Quote ---If it's a new 30 gig instead of the older model then you're out of luck. If it's an old model that's been flashed to the 1.2 firmware you can basically follow the directions for flashing firmware on the Ipod Linux forums.

That's how to download and flash the firmware and reupload it to the ipod..... It's a better bootloader than rockbox's in my opinion.

So I think i'm going to read the instructions and see what this is all about.

Still doesn't work for me :/
When I use ipodpatcher, I get:
[INFO] Reading partition table from \\.\PhysicalDrive3
Error reading from disk: The parameter is incorrect.
This is definitely my ipod, because all other numbers (I've tried up to 30) either say there isn't a disk there, or say it isn't an ipod.
