Possibly a dumb question re: Fonts?

(1/1)

roach:
Is anyone aware of a utility for viewing the various .fnt files that come with RockBox (or various people's WPS packages)? I'm not talking about the UISimulator, just something that would let me view the actual .fnt files on a Windows machine, to compare and contrast the various fonts. If not, I guess I'll write my own using the file format from font.h...

bluebrother:
the fonts are generated from bdf font files. See tools/convbbdf, so no need to read fnt files itself. I don't know of font editors for windows but there is fontforge around ... (no idea if it runs on windows)

iPodFoo:
I tried "font fitting room" but it doesnt seem to work with the rockbox fnt files for some reason. And it messes up XP. Changes fonts and automatically change to desktop to use Cleartype. Sorry not much help, at least you know what NOT to use!  ;D

You mean the .fnt format is some sort of standard? I thought it was a RockBox-specific format. I'll have a look for this. Thanks! I can open the .bdf files in a test editor, but it doesn't really give me an idea of what the font actually LOOKS like. I'd like to be able to browse through them the way you can browse TTF files under windows...

lowlight:
Try here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CreateFonts

You can use fontforge under windows if you have cygwin & Xorg installed.
