Hi Linus,

seems it is not necessary to supply you a single file...

I did a fresh install and cleared the settings. The single files with umlauts are played fine and displayed correctly. But when playing them by using playlist files, it does not work. Seems the file, referenced by the playlist, is not found, due to the umlaut in the filename reference.

Linus, I beg you for supporting the ASCII playlists again!! Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I got exactly the same problem here, updating the version after a long time, really happy about the themes and remote display working, but I can't use  most of my playlist because even if the folder got an umlaut in it the player won't play any of the songs in it, and I don't feel like (or have the chance) to redo all my playlists.
But if there is no other way can someone please tell me which is the last build that will support my old playlists?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work,
Julian

ASCII playlists are supported. Characters like umlauts are outside of ASCII -- windows for example uses cp1252 in Germany, which is mostly identical to latin9 (aka. ISO-8859-15). This is not ASCII.
You can use iconv to convert your playlists between charsets. It's also available for windows, see http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/libiconv.htm

I agree that Rockbox should at least honor the selected code page when reading playlists.

Yes, bluebrother - you are right. But I don't want to perform any conversion, because such playlist already ran fine with Rockbox.

Linus, may we hope...?

In the meantime, I re-installed my old September (2005) build.

But though I cleared the settings, I can't change language and font. On the other hand, all other settings can get changed.

What's wrong?

Okay, I know, there is no support with such old builds...

But, has no one of you developers or experts any idea, what's went wrong with my re-installation of this old build?

And, when will my old non-UTF8 playlists get supported again?

Thanks in advance.

How does it behave when you try to change the settings?

Do you have the .lng files in the /.rockbox/langs directory and the fonts in the /.rockbox/fonts directory?

Hi pabouk,

thanks for your response!

There is simply no change with the font or language selection.

Yes, all the files in the langs and fonts directory exist.

And again, all other settings are controllable and are saved!

Did you completely delete the /.rockbox directory? If not please do so and try to install the old build again and clear the settings again. Sometimes the files in /.rockbox from a different version could cause problems.

I do not know what could cause such a problem :( but your configuration files could help us to investigate further. Please do the following:
1. Reset the configuration.
2. Save it to reset.cfg.
3. Change one of the problematic parameters. Let's say font.
4. Save it to font-ch.cfg.

Send both the .cfg files and listing of the /.rockbox/fonts directory here.

The font setting is not saved in your font-ch.cfg. Try to load the attached font-ch2.cfg.

Hi pabouk,

I loaded your config file. But unfortunately, this doesn't help.

Seems, some file has gone corrupted? The original archive is not available anymore. It's just a copy of the files on the player.

Thank you very much for your effort!

Because (almost) everything else works fine so far, I think I shall wait for a new build, that supports non-UTF8 encoded playlists. Hope, this will happen soon...
