Songs and playlists with german umlauts

Hi Linus,

seems it is not necessary to supply you a single file...

I did a fresh install and cleared the settings. The single files with umlauts are played fine and displayed correctly. But when playing them by using playlist files, it does not work. Seems the file, referenced by the playlist, is not found, due to the umlaut in the filename reference.

Linus, I beg you for supporting the ASCII playlists again!! Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I got exactly the same problem here, updating the version after a long time, really happy about the themes and remote display working, but I can't use  most of my playlist because even if the folder got an umlaut in it the player won't play any of the songs in it, and I don't feel like (or have the chance) to redo all my playlists.
But if there is no other way can someone please tell me which is the last build that will support my old playlists?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work,
Julian

ASCII playlists are supported. Characters like umlauts are outside of ASCII -- windows for example uses cp1252 in Germany, which is mostly identical to latin9 (aka. ISO-8859-15). This is not ASCII.
You can use iconv to convert your playlists between charsets. It's also available for windows, see http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/libiconv.htm

LinusN:
I agree that Rockbox should at least honor the selected code page when reading playlists.

heze:
Yes, bluebrother - you are right. But I don't want to perform any conversion, because such playlist already ran fine with Rockbox.

Linus, may we hope...?
