RB on Archos 20GB Recorder vs 30GB IPOD
(1/1)
Stringrazor:
I've been running RB on my Archos since shortly after I bought it new. It still works fine, no problems but time marches on and I have a chance to get a good deal on a 30GB iPod. I'm a WinXP users and not much of an Apple fan but I'm tempted, especially if I can still use RB *AND* don't have to load and use iTunes which I'm not at all interested in. Does RB run on a "last year's model" 30GB iPod? What can you tell me about what my experience would be with RB on a iPod 30GB vs. on my old Archos 20GB recorder? Should I get a 60GB drive and keeping running RB on the Archos or admit that resistence is futile and get the iPod?
Flid:
Hi Stringrazor.
Well done for holding out so long. AJBR's are still great players with Rockbox, and sound quality, stability and battery performance has yet to be comparable on new ports (AFAIAA). I would guess this is heavily connected to the fact that no-other port has had an official release yet.
Basic functionality with an iPod should be mostly the same, with the exception of losing recording but gaining larger, higher def colour screen in a MUCH smaller unit. Battery life won't be as good for a while. As far as I am concerned, sound quality is pretty damn good on the iPod, but I never fiddle with EQ and my eardrums have been heavily abused over the years. There's still a lot of optimisation to happen, but it's getting there.
When you say "lasy years model" iPod... what do you mean? Photo, Video or greyscale?
