One way to make it work with rockbox AND ipods original firmware is to manage all your music with itunes.

Rockbox will read the hidden folder that itunes stores it's music in.

2 things:

Note, this is wholly a restriction on iTunes and your iPod, and has nothing to do with Rockbox.  Apple is the one who's not playing nice.

To get the most benefit out of your iTunes tunes in Rockbox, you must use the Tag Database.  Check it out in the manual.

I'm an uber-newbie and just considering changing to roxbox so excuse the question if it appears daft.
So if I load RB into my G4 it will see the music already there?

Yes.
If you take the time to learn how to use the tag Database (AKA Tagcache).

Read here:

I assume that "G4" means iPod 4th gen.

Thanks.
And yes I mean Ipod Gen4 (U2 20GB) I have found many refer to the different versions of Ipods with short-hand G3,G4,G5 etc.

I thought i'd try to be cool like that. :-[

We put the number first.  I have no idea if that's some sort of standard or not :D

And when I wrote "Tagcache" above that's what it was named.  Now it's named the Database or the Tag Database.  As this thread has been freshened, I'll just go up there and edit that to avoid confusion.
