iPod 5G - Windows Portable
« on: September 28, 2006, 11:01:11 PM »
Introducing A Windows Media Portable-Like WPS using the jBuild (Same build as for jClix)...

Rockbox Windows

It's only a beta, but here's the image I'm basing the WPS off of:

I'm planning on continuing work on it in the next few days.

Critique?

I like it lot Dan! Good job.

However...

the only thing I can see wrong with it is that I'm pretty sure the use of the XP logo w/o Microsoft's permission is illegal.

I don't see the Windows or XP logo anywhere in that picture.  ;)

Well, it may not be the "XP" logo, but it is the Windows logo.

Sorry, apparently, when I first viewed this post, one of the images failed to load.  I only saw the image of the "start" screen on the Creative unit.  My bad!!!   :-[

I like the idea, and it seems to be coming along well so far. However;

1. As already mentioned, using the Windows logo is probably illegal and not needed anyway.

2. The font used for the vertical 'Start' text is a bit bulky and is hollow as opposed to the 'filled' text of the original.

3. This may seem nit-picky, but in the final version, how much of the background is going to be shown? Because in the Creative player the background cuts off just slightly above the darker foremost hill, but in your image the whole background can be seen, dark hill included.

4. The blue menu bar is could be lightened up slightly, especially on the left side of the panel.

Hope these help.

First off, the image is in the middle-top left part of the screen. Second, I didn't USE the Windows XP logo, I made it from scratch with INFLUENCE from the windows icon. However, Odviously if I must, I will give Microsoft credit for originally designing the icon. I'm sure THAT won't be a problem.

MODIFY: Okay, I did realize however, that the background IS Microsoft's work. So I'm probably going to change the background, I guess...or if I should just give them credit. Either way, Microsoft made the background on the WPS at the moment.

Yup...Not posting up pictures right now, but I've done a bit. I'm working on Volume, Repeat, Shuffle, Battery icons, along with custom fonts SPECIFICALLY for this theme (AKA, Times New Roman LOOKING (Not actual TNR Font)). I'll have pictures up tomorrow.

i doubt microsoft would care anyway. People use the windows logo all the time.

Although the windows logo is ugly anyway, i would probably end up removing it from the images anyway :P

this theme looks like itll turn out real niceZ! Im not one for the windows xp look thoguh, i find it particularly ugly. :-X but I cant wait to see this theme when its finished!

I like how you added the transparency, I think it maintains the same feel and looks even better than the image you are modeling this theme off of.
I also like how you are not using the Windows logo.  I don't think it is appropriate for Rockbox to be using any copyright protected logos or other property.

There are some great backdrops there, I especially like the 2nd and 4th.

I like some of those backgrounds too, esp. the woman's eye.  Is there a reason you're leaving the word "Start" on there?  It looks out of place without the Windows logo.
