How to update to latest build

(1/1)

wiredwrx:
I have searched, so I apologize if this has been covered.

I used the Rockbox windows installer.  Installed on a Ipod Video.  All is working great.  My current version is several months old.  I would like to update/upgrade the Rockbox to the latest build.  I have tried using the installer.

I started the installer, and chose to update the binaries/bootloader.  Then, I get an error "Cannot create child process" I click O.K. (the only option)  Then, it downloaded (not anymore, cause it doesn't find anything new) and asks if I want to exit or go to main menu.

How do I update the IPOD.  Must I install everything again?  So, after the download, when I get to the main menu of the installer, do I now choose "Install" even though I want to upgrade.

Will I lose my music?  Will I lose my theme?  How can update the build on my unit?

I currently have version 060528-0056 on.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Michael

As far as I can remember with v7.7 (yes, it has been that long since I've touched it), you can't update the daily build without installing the bootloader again.

The new version will be out today most likely, and that has the option to install just a daily build (upgrading you from the old one).
So, you can either hold on until it comes out very shortly, or just do it manually (download the build, extract it to your iPod).

Llorean:
1) The installer is NOT supported here as it is entirely unofficial. Questions regarding problems with it should not be asked here.

2) The official install instructions, at least on the wiki, also explain that to update to a newer build all you must do is extract a newer rockbox.zip onto your player.
