Here you go, tested it out and it seems to transfer playcounts and ratings properly (at least well enough that the "best" tracks in the tagcache are the ones I rated highly from the apple firmware).

Cool! Nice work!
How about the other way around? Can you write TO itunes from rockbox?

I haven't yet endeavored to do so, as I noted the rating system is not really equivalent, and an iTunesDB built from what little is in the TagCache would be pretty incomplete.

Hmm, I just looked into it, while I can directly transfer over playcount, the rating is not stored in the tagcache, rather it is calculated from the playtime, length, and playcount of the track.  I'm going to try to set the playtime value to mimic iTunes' explicit rating system.

This could be properly fixed now that the Database has been recently updated to hold a rating tag...

let the gods be praised

i read the tracker but cant seem to distinguish if it just adds the feature to rate songs or to read ratings and/or lyrics from songs  tagged with itunes?
that would be sweetness!

As an ipod user who is currently considering switching back to rockbox (I used it extensively back in my archos days), I was wondering if anyone could tell me the feasibility of some ideas I had.

I presently use ml_ipod (http://mlipod.sf.net) to organize my ipod's music via winamp. Is there any possibility of extending the database converter into something that could run from rockbox itself and translate back and forth between the two?

Ideally, I'd love to continue using ml_ipod, which has last.fm integration with winamp (holding the local song submission queue until the portable is plugged up again), ratings syncing with the winamp media library, smart playlists, etc. At this point it's the only thing keeping me tied with the standard ipod UI.

*edit: another possibility? What about a version of the converter that still runs on the pc, but can be called from an external program (ml_ipod, in this case) to convert back and forth from native ipod to rockbox database? When converting back from rockbox to ipod native database, it would merge the changes since the last conversion from ipod to rockbox database.
