Charging DC: What's the plug size?

<< < (2/2)

aliask:
If you buy a 3rd party DC adapter, they often come with multiple plugs. I recently bought a DC adaptor for another piece of hardware I found, and realised it came with a plug that fitted my H300.

traut:
Yes - but that's the exact reason why I'd like to know the used plug sizes before ordering.

Some companies name their adaptor sizes within the description. You don't have to buy this device, as long as the wanted size is not included.

Side note: I learned about iGo and their iTips recently. I feel it's a very good and overdue idea. But for any reason (they claim legal issues) they refuse to name the range of available sizes.

Concerning iriver:  I've added the info to http://www.misticriver.net/wiki/index.php/Charger
It shows once again that they have no long term interest in customers (or they have no long term planning at all): they change not only plugs from model to model (e.g. H10 with 18-pin connector, U10 with 24-pin-connector, U10-Cradle with non-standard Mini-USB), but they also applied different DC plugs from generation to generation.

If it's of any interest any more... Radiospares (rswww.com) partnumber 486-640, described as a 1.3mm plug, fits and works. In my ossif, there's an old-but-good quiet Seasonic ATX PSU with its 5V, 12V, and 3.3V outputs delivered over hefty cable to several drop points. Just now made up a cable with said plug, patched it into the 5V supply, and my newly-acquired freshly-Rockbox'ed iHP-140 charges like a good 'un.

Note that the 1.3mm refers to the dimension of the inner hole in the plug; outer diameter is 3.5mm. This particular plug is a little longer than the one on the original PSU, by a couple of mm (this one's 9mm, the original looks to be about 7mm).

To save the joys of soldering these smallish plugs, those nice people at Tait Components (www.tait-components.com) will flog you an apparently compatible connector with 6 imperial feet of figure-8 wire already attatchulated, under their partnum 162310.

And just to remind all, it's 0V on the outer, 5V on the inner. No polarity-inverting operating-smoke-venting oopsies, please!

Hi all:
I'm looking for the specs for a car DC power adapter for my JBR10 v1, Flashed Rockbox v2.5.
My Kings AC charger output is speced at 9VDC, 600mA, with no plug dimensions.
Recently tried a RadioShack Universal 9VDC, 1000mA (273-1863) but the plug outside diameter is slightly wider (4.5mm vs 3mm).
Is this measuremnt difference the reason why the power adapter fails to work?
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks All
