iPod's pause on jack plugged out feature - questions
« on: September 25, 2006, 09:09:06 AM »
Hi all !

I was wondering about the function of the iPod (and maybe other players, I don't know) which pauses playback when you plug the jack out.

Do you have any technical detail about it ?

Depending on how it works, we could perhaps be able to use it in an other way...

I'm not sure (no ipod), but I think there's a GPIO pin that is pulled high/low when headphones are plugged/unplugged.
Search flyspray for the (closed, accepted) auto pause patch and read it for exact info.

Hum, alright, it's just a basic switch. Secretly I was hoping for something being able to give a tension.  ;D

Well never mind, thanks.

Do you mean you're gonna commit suicide just after updating your rockbox ?  ;D

You guys are weird...

lol Actually, I downloaded the latest CVS build (at the time) as I rushed out the door to school today, and in AP Bio (yah, I know...) I finally got around to messing around with the options.  I was shocked (in a good way) of how you can unplug it, it'll pause, then if you plug it back in it resumes play!  Things like this make Rockbox superior over the Apple OS.

Keep up the good work!

actually I mean I might bother updating my rockbox a little more regularly, as this is one less patch to roll myself. :)

hmmm. you know that apple OS does that, right?
(granted it doesn't have all the configurability.)

anyway, I second the thanks to all the devs. and great work Obo (& the people who started it before you came along) on this patch.

That'll be Max Ried, aka bot47 - who started it back in late March, before I hijacked his patch :)

Seems to me that Apple OS doesn't resume play when you re-plug in the earphones. Even though it does turn on, if it's off and earphones plugged out.
